Eschenheimer Turm

Frankfurt
Eschenheimer Turm is one of the last remaining towers to encircle the city of Frankfurt. At one stage there was 60 towers like this one circling the city. Most towers were destroyed when the old city walls were torn down between 1806 and 1812, but luckily Eschenheimer was saved by the French Ambassador Graf d’Hedouville.

The Tower is located north of the Hauptwache in Frankfurt, the old town walls are today replaced with a ring of gardens enclosing the old town.

The tower was originally built as part of a medieval wall which encircled the city and was used as a gate to protect Frankfurt’s residents from the outside dangers but today the traffic flows around the tower.

You can reach Eschenheimer Turm by foot from Schillerstrasse, where you will find a renowned Bistro E.T im Turm
