Frankfurt – know before you go:

Money-

  • ·The unit of currency in Frankfurt is the Euro €. Currency exchange is available at most banks and the city has lots of ATM machines if you need to get your hands on more euros.
  • ·Most restaurants include a service charge in the bill, but if you are happy with the service you can leave a tip, which is usually 10% of the bill.

Business Hours

  • ·Most shops are open Monday-Saturday until 8pm – so you can shop till you drop! On Sundays you'll just find souvenir and gift shops open.
  • ·In general, museums are closed on a Monday in Frankfurt, but there are exceptions, consult your guidebook to find out which ones.

Telephones

  • ·Public telephones can be found all over the city and accept cards and coins. You can also buy telephone cards to the value of €5 and €10.
  • Emergencies

  • ·For ambulance, fire-brigade and emergency services dial 112. For police dial 110.

Visas/Passports

  • · As long as you have a valid passport you can enter Germany. It's best to check with the Germany Embassy in your own country as to whether you need a visa or not.

When's a good time to go

  • Frankfurt is a great destination all year round, but probably the best time to visit is in Spring or the Autumn, as the Summer tends to be very warm and humid, and the Winters can be as cold as minus 10 degrees!
