getting around frankfurt

Getting around Frankfurt:

You should have no problem in this department, as Frankfurt is a small metropolis where most attractions are within walking distance of each other. So if you're centrally based in the city centre, you can easily make your way around on foot.

However, if you are not up to walking, there are several options to get around. The city has two underground rail systems called U-Bahn and S-Bahn. Most of the S-Bahn is above ground as it mainly covers the city suburbs as well as the international airport.

The U-Bahn is actually a full underground interconnecting metro system with three major routes. On a map you will see the northern route (U1, U2, U3), the east-west route (U6, U7) and the U4.

The city also has a very efficient bus and tram service, but if you are based in the city centre you will have little use for them.

A good way to see the city is to hire a bike. Frankfurt is extremely bike-friendly and you'll see bike hire outlets almost everywhere. Most of the city's streets have a cycling lane and there's a nice bike route along the River Main, which is a must, if your hire a bike.

Although Frankfurt has excellent connections to the rest of Germany, try to avoid driving in the city itself. Firstly, it is extremely confusing for first timers in the city, with lots of one way streets and confusing roundabouts, and if you do manage to get around – try to find a parking space, its next to impossible!
